My dad shared his camera, darkroom gear and love for photography with me when I was a young boy (thanks Pops). I was curious and fascinated with the camera, taking photos of things and animals around our little farm near Coloma, California (where James Marshall discovered gold); barn, creek, feed, garden, horses, sheep, goats, chickens, ants and insects, crawling around the rocks and trees.
I soon discovered the same fun in photographing people, just as they are, in their natural state and surroundings. I wanted to capture the moment, unexpected.
Photography is a remarkable medium that seems to defy the laws of nature. In a split second, you can freeze a moment in time, forever – capturing the life, love, mood, character and personality. It can illustrate so much in just a couple seconds, and yet it can mesmerize for a lifetime.
